What to Expect on Your First visit
We absolutely understand how you feel when you decide to come for counseling. While it is an encouraging, proactive way to resolve your personal issues, you may still be worried about what other people may think when you are seen in a place for counseling. With Carolina Counseling Services – Southern Pines, you’ll be glad to know that part of your initial concerns need not bother you. Our facility, which is located near downtown Southern Pines, NC, and very close to Aberdeen, NC and Pinehurst NC, only has but a small signage to help you find us on the second floor.
Feel Right at Home
Making you feel comfortable, just like in your home, is important so we make sure that such kind of ambiance is what will welcome you when you come to see us. The waiting area and the offices are all deliberately designed with your comfort in mind – clean, pleasant and warm. In the background is a soothing music to relax your mind and to hush off noises and sounds emanating from the other offices. The total environment makes sure you’ll be conditioned to relax and not to hold back.
Filling Out the Forms
A clipboard in the waiting room has some forms you need to fill out as you wait for your appointment. Once you’re done, at your appointment time, your therapist will come out to meet you and guide you to the office. You may hand over your ID card and insurance card so these can be validated and photocopied. Once these preliminaries are over and done with, your therapist will talk to you so you can get to know each other more.
The Value of a Good Chemistry
This first meeting is critical because this is when all the evaluations are done to understand your concerns and to determine how you can be helped. This is also the best time to find out if he/she therapist is the right match for you. The specialization of the therapist is important, but the value of good chemistry can’t be underestimated.
Matching you with a therapist can be objectively done based on the nature of your concerns and the counselor’s specialization. The chemistry between you, however, can only be decided when you two meet and talk. You know the match is right when you can spill the beans like it is the most normal thing for you to do. You will sense it when sharing your secrets and most guarded thoughts just happen naturally.
The CCS Promise
Carolina Counseling Services lives by its mission to extend counseling services to those in need in the areas it serve. That can’t be fulfilled when you or your counselor thinks you are not the right fit for each other. Based on the initial meeting and the results of the evaluation, you can discuss if this is the right “fit”.
Because your wellness is a priority of the Carolina Counseling Services – Southern Pines and our independently contracted therapists are client-focused; they will not hesitate to recommend another independently contracted therapist if the results of the evaluation show that another professional can better help you. You, on the other hand, can decide on the “right fit” based on how you feel.
This introduction is meant to ease your mind and make your “first appointment jitters” to go away.
