It is Time to Let Go: Talk to an Expert
Worrying from time to time is inevitable, particularly when the matter concerns something or someone close to your heart. You’re caught in a monstrous traffic on your way to a meeting with a client you’ve been wooing for the past few months. The stock market takes a plunge and you are seriously losing money big time. You are worried about your job, your marriage, or your children. You are about to address a large crowd. Who wouldn’t feel anxious under any of these circumstances?
Not every fear, however, is well-founded. When it becomes excessive to the point of interfering with your day to day life, you need to let it go. Talking about it to an expert can help.
Putting a Label to Your Fear
Anxiety is not just about feeling occasional justifiable worries. It is about feeling excessive, unreasonable fears that stand between you and your short- and long-term goals.
There are several anxiety disorders; each has different symptoms, but all are clustered around extreme, illogical fear and dread. One of these may be affecting you. These anxiety disorders include panic disorder, social phobia (or social anxiety disorder), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), specific phobias, and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Stop Anxiety Before It Stops You
It is estimated that there are almost 40 million adult Americans who are struggling with anxiety disorders. If you feel trapped in feelings of illogical uncertainty and fear crippling your abilities to make decisions and losing opportunities that come your way, you need to face your fears and stop them before they have an extreme negative affect on your life.
Just ignoring the signs can make your condition more complicated, leading to other physical and psychological problems, which may manifest themselves in extreme reactions including drug abuse and alcoholism. In cases like these, treatment will entail attending to these complications first to get to the root of the anxiety disorder.
Taking the First Step to Talking
If your anxiety is preventing you being a productive person, call Carolina Counseling Services right away to start treatment! If you are thinking your anxiety stems only from a health condition, you may want to call your doctor and make an appt also. Emotional and physical health go hand in hand, and it is important that you look at all angles. Many physician offices regularly refer their patients to Carolina Counseling Services as they continue to treat them for their physical ailments. Taking care of both your emotional and physical health is essential in enjoying your life.
Amazingly just talking about your fears can help a lot in easing your anxiety, particularly social phobia or social anxiety disorder. In a research undertaken by a group of scientists from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (September, 2014), it was revealed that “talk therapy, not medication (is) best for social anxiety disorder.” The findings also revealed that a lot of the sufferers choose medication or nothing at all because many do not have access to professional therapists.
